My favourite first...

I know, I know, none of us have been around of late for several reasons (the Romanchics have been very busy indeed), but with my new book being released this week, Never Say Never, I thought it was the perfect chance to share one of my favourite firsts.

The first kiss

Whether it be in a film or a book, I love the build to that ultimate moment when the hero and heroine seal their fate. Lips brush, skin tingles and sparks fly. One of my favourites has to be from….Never Been Kissed.

The lead up is epic, the tension is sizzling and because the kiss happens so far into the film it keeps you on the edge of your seat, begging them to get on with it already. I also think the heroine, Josie Geller, describes what it should be perfectly:-

That thing, that moment, when you kiss someone and everything around becomes hazy and the only thing in focus is you and this person and you realize that that person is the only person that you're supposed to kiss for the rest of your life, and for one moment you get this amazing gift and you want to laugh and you want to cry because you feel so lucky that you found it and so scared that that it will go away all at the same time.

I want a kiss like that!

Or those kisses when the characters have waited so long that there’s absolutely nothing sweet or gentle about it. When passion twists into desperation, and even an audience can’t slow them down for long, so much so that ripping clothes off seems as necessary as breathing.

Then there are those first kisses, when it’s more about proving a point, but it backfires horribly? That’s what happened to Sander in Never Say Never. Here’s a sneak peak.

Sander pulled Chloe back into his arms, ignoring the club full of celebrities and high
rollers. She felt right molded to him, and he didn’t give a damn who saw their exchange. This was about proving to her she wanted him. He’d seen it in her eyes when they’d been pressed together, chest to chest. Felt it in her shiver when he brushed his lips against her smooth skin. Saw it now, in the dilation of her pupils. And dammit, he had the same response. It’s why he’d released her.
But her scowl changed that. How could she insinuate she hadn’t enjoyed being close like he had? She looked up at him, her hands fisted in the front of his shirt—probably in anger—but her dark golden eyes gave away her feelings. Her lust. And he wanted her to acknowledge it wasn’t just him who felt it.
He slid one hand up her back and into the silky waves at the nape of her neck. With his other arm, he tightened his hold and drew her so close every staggered breath pressed his chest against her breasts. The twin peaks pressing into his skin was as much evidence of her arousal as the thumping of her heart.
He lowered his head and slanted his mouth against her gloss covered lips. She opened up, sighed, and her hands slid around his neck. Arousal crashed through him, and he deepened the kiss, feasted on the sweet, erotic taste of her, and dipped his tongue in to experience it more fully.
Shit. He didn’t think it would go this far. Hadn’t expected her response to fuck with his head like it did. But her fingers slid into his hair, pulled him closer, made his wavering control snap. His groin tightened along with his trousers and he knew she felt it pressed against her flat stomach.
He was lost in her, in the torrent of hormones racking his body. There wasn’t a time he’d kissed a woman and felt so…much. Whether it was because she tried to hide her reaction, or he’d been kidding himself thinking he would be able to keep his hands to himself, he couldn’t seem to stop.

So, what are your favourite first kisses? I’d love to know!

I'll leave you with North and South's, courtesy of Meg :o)

  1. Sounds wonderful. I love to read good kisses and this was especially enjoyable coming from the male perspective. Thanks for not giving him short shrift.

  2. Well, since I was reminded of PRETTY WOMAN while reading NEVER SAY NEVER, I'm now reminded of that first kiss shared between Edward and Vivian long after they'd had sex. He'd fallen asleep and she took the opportunity to kiss him - she, who doesn't kiss on the lips. He wakes and more than a kiss happens. : )

The kiss in NEVER BEEN KISSED is epic!

    1. That's one of my favourite kisses too! Watching Vivian slowly start to trust and fall for Edward melted my heart.

  3. I am with you Amy - the kiss in Never Been Kissed is THE BEST EVER! However, close to that is the kiss in the train station at the end of North and South. I could watch it a million times *sighs*.

    For your viewing pleasure:

  4. Oooo sexy. Have added it to the post!

  5. I love that movie, Never Been Kissed. That's an excellent first kiss and it's definitely one of my favorites. But that excerpt, Aimee...shoowee. That's hot. ;)

    1. Thanks hon. Plenty more after too ;o)

  6. Great Post. My fave is an innocent one. ET! When Elliot kisses the girl in his class but has to stand on a classmates back to reach her. So sweet. And to prove I'm no longer 12 - Meet Joe Black when Death has his first kiss. Of course it helps that Death is Brad Pitt.

    1. Aw that's cute Tracey! Actually, I love that kiss too when Death gets kissed. Forgot about that one, and it's his first kiss ever. Doh.
